Description
In June 1997 Namco released the GunCon light gun controller for the original PlayStation in Japan. The Gun came in a black color and was sold separately or in bundles with “Time Crisis” or “Gun Bullet” (Point Blank). Soon after it was released in America sporting a gray color with an orange tip too clearly identify it as a toy gun. Europe also got the gun in gray, but lacking the orange color and they also changed the name to “G-con45”. In Europe it could also be sold in bundles with: “Point Blank”, “Point Blank 2”, “Time Crisis” and “Time Crisis: Project Titan”
For controlling games the gun has two buttons on either side below the barrel, called “A” and “B”, both are rubber dome buttons. These buttons were used to navigate menus or use the duck mechanic in Time Crisis. The trigger has a nice clicky feeling as it uses a micro switch.
The GunCon was the first gun to support the “Guncon Mode” which enhances the accuracy. It uses a composite connection which utilizes the video signal of the PlayStation output. In order to make this possible, the gun came with an adapter that connects between the video output and the video cable of the PlayStation.
