Description
After their success on the original Playstation, Namco continued their efforts in the light gun genre on the PS2 with the release of the GunCon2 in 2001. In Japan they stayed with the black color, but this time they made the buttons light gray. Americans got it in a bright orange color, while Europe received a blue version called “G-Con2”. Overall, the gun was a little smaller compared to its predecessor and featured more buttons and a D-Pad. They also improved on their “Guncon-Mode”, which was simply called GunCon2-Mode. The gun could be obtained seperately, but also came in bundles with the games “Gun Survivor 2: Biohazard”, “Gun Survivor 3: Dino Crisis”, “Gun Survivor 4: Biohazard”, “Namco Gunvari Collection”, “Time Crisis 2” and “Time Crisis 3”.
The A- and B-buttons moved further to the back and now sit above the trigger, the left side also houses the “Start” and “Select” buttons. On the bottom of the handle where a magazin would go, is a new third button simply called “C”. On the back, where the hammer would be, is a D-Pad for menus and moving controls in games like the Gun Survivor series.
As there is only a USB plug and the composite connector, it was not compatible with the original Playstation. The only Gunmode available was the GunCon2 mode, so no games with normal Gunmode or Guncon(1) were supported.
