Description
The Sniper Scope was released in 2004 by VGA (Video Game Accessories) for the original Xbox. With its attachable scope, barrel and stock, it can be converted into either a shotgun or sniper rifle. The barrel is mounted with a bayonet closure, the scope is pushed into the bracket on top of the gun, and the Stock is pushed inside the handle. The latter is rather hard to remove, even when the two buttons to release it are pressed. The biggest novelty of this was its sensor in the back, which detects if you are looking through the scope. The only game to take advantage of this feature was Silent Scope Complete, in which the view would change from a far position into a scope vision as soon as you’re positioned behind the scope.
On the right side of the barrel are the “B”, “Y” and “Black” buttons. You can change the firemode with the 4-way switch next to the buttons. Above the Trigger is an on/off switch for the blowback feedback. On the left side of the barrel are the buttons “X”, “White”, “Back” and “Start”. Under the scope is a knob that lets you change the sensitivity of the scope proximity feature, as well as a switch for turning this feature on or off. Behind the Trigger is a little stick for directional control, it is rotated by 90°, which means the “up” direction is pointed to the front of the gun. On the bottom of the barrel is a pump-action slide reloader. Below this senosor a Xbox memory unit could be inserted.
Firemodes:
- Normal
- Autoreload: After six rounds
- Autofire
- Burst
For feedback, it uses a kickback mechanism that is mounted inside the guns shell. It can not be seen from the outside. A Motor pushes a slide back and after reaching its back position a spring brings the slide back in its original position. No external power source is needed for the feedback to work.
